What do you think of a religious cross as a tattoo? I've been thinking of getting a really small one on the side of my wrist. I'm just not too sure whether it's a good thing, or if it's bad to do that as being a a Catholic.
I'm open to any criticisms, whether you think that it's bad to do as a Christian, or if it's all right.

Getting a tattoo on the wrist can be bad because you will look like white trash, and it will be harder for potential employers to take you seriously. I was watching "seventh heaven" on tv the other day, and the dad who is a minister has a cross on his pelvic bone and his wive has a heart. The whole episode was about how all the members of their family have tattoos.....Their tattoos were coverable. Generally, tattoos that can't be easily covered make you white trash....or whatever color you are...black trash. I would never get a tattoo because not having one makes me feel culturally superior to people who do have them....and there are a lot of people who think the same as I do....like it or not....its your body...join the lower class if you wish.

I am religious and I see the cross as being synonymous with Christianity and divinity, and I don't see why an Atheist would want to have a tattoo of the most recognizable Christian emblem on his or her body either. I would agree with you for the most part (although your friend may have gotten it to be a symbol for something else - but even then, I can't imagine it to mean anything else).

I am an artist and used to be against tattoos that mark up the body until one day I had a near fatal car accident and ended up with a 16 inch scar on my stomach and numerous others on my body. I realized that this body of mine is just a temporary shell to house my spirit and soul. The fleshy part is just the walls of the Temple and life has marked them up already with scars. Being an artist I wanted to do a bit of art on it to make it look nice. As long as you glorify God in anything you do I don't see that it is a sin. If you do it just for the sake of vanity, I suppose it could be.

I don't prefer tattoos myself, but if I were to ever get one, it would be a cross, but not the crucifix because I don't view Jesus as still hanging on the cross. Because of employment purposes you should also put the tattoo in an inconspicuous place.

I'm not sure what having a cross has to do with being a Catholic but I think it would be fine...no criticism from me.

Well...actually..I thought about doing this myself. I prayed about it and thought it very good idea. I guess it depends on how God convicts you. Pray about it...alot. If you believe in your heart that God would use it in his will. Go right on ahead. As for me...I didn't do it because I am going to be a teacher(not a good idea in getting a tattoo if you know what I mean). In Leviticus 19:28 it says "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."
As you see...it was probably meant for those who worshiped idols and the dead. Not for those who wish to do it for other reasons. I guess, pretty much pray about it. It's not my place to give you an answer really, it's GODs.

There is nothing wrong with tattooing and the individual should get what they are most comfortable with getting. However, to put it in a place where it can not be covered easily can sometimes lead to other problems as more and more workplaces are requiring tattoos to be covered when working.

The cross is actually a pagan symbol. If a gun murders your mom, will you mount his gun on the wall and praise it?

God himself even states in the bible, make no graven image of me and make no statue of me. He is flat up saying, do not worship an item or an image. A cross is both.

If I was you....I'd pick the one passage that touches your heart to all depths....then have that passage name as the tattoo.

Like mine.....I believe in Revelations 15:2. I believe that is my calling. So if I was to do that tat, I'd get just Revelations 15.2 on my wrist (underside).

I would not get one my wrist. But I do have a tattoo of a cross on my ankle. I think it is fine. But it is a metter of your own convections. It does say in the Bible not to mark yourselves with piercings or tattoos. But it goes on to say that people did it to mourn the dead.

I think it's a horrible decision to deface your body.

1Co 6:19 -
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

So, no, I wouldn't get a tattoo. If you want to show others your faith be a doer of the word and they will see the light that is within you. God knows whether you love Him or not; it is within your heart.
