We sponsor a child in Colombia. A portion of both my and my spouse's pay goes to the United Way. I cut off all my hair and donated it. I have given a friend who has fallen on hard times hundreds of dollars in the past couple weeks so she and her son do not lose their home.
There are endless ways that we (even heathen atheists like me!) can help people out.
The way I see it, we atheists are even more obligated to do so, as we don't believe god will do it any time soon.
(Not trying to blow my own horn here; these are just facts. I think you should let people know how easy it is to help out and maybe they will be inspired to do the same.)

It is always nice to help our fellow humans, but we don't have to conquer the world in a day. Helping someone doesn't have to involve money, it could be a friendly smile to a discouraged person and a pat on the back. Loving your spouse and making a happy home. Being nice to someone who you disagree with on Yahoo, instead of beating them up. All these things make a better world. So God Bless.

Yes, a close friend of the family has very little financial support. We often have her over for dinner. Today we purchased a DVD player for her. She can now have some entertainment when we are not available.
And it feels really wonderful to be able to help another person out.

I try to do my everyday work with care, keeping in mind that someone else will benefit from it if I do it right. I think that whatever you do, someone else will be affected by it, so it is better that they are affected possitively by your acts. Actually the answers I have received in Yahoo have been of great help, so even here we are doing something for our fellow humans. Thanks for asking!

I cleaned ice off a sidewalk so people wouldn't slip and crack their heads open, also, I recycled a can of soda and slowed down for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

No, I haven't done anything nor would I like to. If you were Muslim you would be required to give 10% of your money to the poor to help your fellow human beings. Islam is so much more humane than Christianity.

Well, It all really depends, that's a really commendable cause, homelessness and hunger.
A lot of people would disagree with my giving to Animal Rights activism,
As I disagree with people's giving of their time and money to Pro-Abortion propaganda.
