Thank you for the provocative questions.
The earth was created by God to live on, Yahweh God that is.
His purpose has not changed, and even though it has taken some time since Adam and Eve disobeyed their Father Yahweh God, the purpose is still the same.
To live life and to live it abundantly forever, on earth.
It will be under the direction of Christ and the 144,000 chosen ones ruling in The Kingdom of God from Heaven for the duration of 1,000 years after Armageddon--until perfection is restored.
Yes, the meek will inherit the earth. Those are the ones that make up the sheep class, the ones who do God's will and make it their own because they Love the Father, Yahweh God.
Those are the ones that are also no part of this system of things, the wicked system of Satan.
They do not take part in wars or in politics and yet they obey the laws of the land. God is allowing the earthly governments for now. Otherwise there would be more chaos and anarchy than there now is.
Satan's reign is coming to an end soon and all those on his side are ending also.
There'll be no wickedness left here, nor sickness, nor grief nor death, only happiness BECAUSE IT IS WRITTEN.

God's plan for this earth is to love and take care of us. Adam and Eve drastically changed God's plan in the human sense. The meek will inherit the earth, but in God's time. Jesus was trying to encourage the people to take heart and be patient. God didn't promise to take problems away, but he did promise to always be with us no matter what the circumstances...

I would like to answer your last question first; if possible.
We as humans were never made to face the horrific pain that sin brought about. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and in doing so brought a terrible thing called sin into the world. Or missing the mark. Sin brought physical death on the world for the first time. If a person chooses certain behavior like shooting heroin, or commiting to sex outside of marriage its end is death, and can cause a kind of living death as well. Sin also caused a seperation between man and God, so what Adam and Eve did was not what God wanted for mankind.
Yes, Jesus did say the meek would inherit the earth in what is called the Beatitudes.
God's purpose for the earth is that we put Him first, and all our needs will be taken care of.
Then to love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.
Each person can come to Him in a dynamic relationship through first repentence, turning away from our sins/being sorry for our sins, and asking for forgiveness from Jesus.
Just like when a person gets caught breaking the law that person has to pay for that crime.
Some one has to pay for when we break God's law. If we just die with sins hanging over us we'll go to hell, forever.
But Jesus paid the price for each person's sins at the cross of Calvary, and He rose again after three days.
He offers each of us this salvation simply because He loves us.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. To get to heaven one must turn away from sins, ask forgiveness of sins through Jesus, and begin living for Him by prayer, and reading the bible.

Jesus did say that and God didnt make the earth for him to live on he made it for mankind. God at one time did walk the earth sometimes though he still lived in Heaven then Adam and Eve sinned making the earth unholy. being unholy the earth could not bear God's power and righteousness. this doesnt mean God cant talk to u it simply means we r not as good as God (even though we never were even when we had not yet sinned)

Well, you know what W.C. Fields used to say. "Water, of course I don't drink water, fish fornicate in it." Only he used the other f word.
I hope this answers your question, and brings you a new spirituality. I know it didn't me.

If there were a god, we are just his ant farm... no purpose. How grandiose for us to think we are that important.
