Nothing

I'm a recovering catholic and a practicing (hope to get it right someday) Episcopalian, so generally I give up church for Lent.

In past years I have given up electricity for 1 full day every week during Lent. This year, however, I found a very cool site which provides one different thing every day to do or not do...

http://www.shipoffools.com/lent/index.html

and, I think I will do that.

I think I will do a fast in the middle of lent. I'm not longer Catholic - but I think lent is a wonderful tradition - and can be a very Spiritual experience.

My Mom - who is just about the best Catholic I know - gave up watching Jeopardy last year. She is a huge Jeoparday fan - so it was hard for her - but she said it made her aware of how very grateful she is for all she has - including her comfy home where she watches Jeopardy!

Also - I've noticed that some Catholic churches are now asking that you do kind deeds daily - instead of giving something up. That way - somebody else benefits. Very nice!

Namaste!

sad, sad answers. Catholics are not the only religions who have Lent. most Christian denominations do..they don't all practice prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving, however. but all Christians should be doing that all year anyway. during Lent we pay special attention to the needs of others, and for the great sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf. that does not preclude us from doing for others or spending some time going without to remind us of how some people must always live. I have given up soda, tv, chocolate, etc. i haven't completely decided yet for this year, Iv'e still got 36 hours! but I always feel good about it after Lent. and remember, you don't have to give up something, you can do something extra instead!

Everyone should have been phrased catholic, other religions don't practice lent or whatever that is. Us atheists certainly don't.

You should not say what you are giving up and to the above: There is no such thing as a Liberal Catholic who does not participate in the Lenten duties. You are not a Catholic at all no matter what you call yourself.
