The prison my brother is in called my mother today saying that they had some information about him. I'm just wondering if this is something that I should get upset about or if it's just something simple.

Uhm... Ask your mom? Write your brother?
He could be ill or injured or he could be getting transferred to another facility or he could be coming up for a classification review hearing.
It could be any number of things, some good, some bad, but there's no way anyone here could know... especially since you did not say what state he's in.

Since yr mother is alive, and unless it has been made known somehow through a legal procedure or testament not to contact parents, siblings always are second choice and alternative to living parents. It is also the parental concern that mothers or fathers or both as parents, are the first person to hear and should be concerned with the welfare or whatever state, a child is in albeit being in prison.

In my experiences with a correctional facility calling a family member, could be for varius reason, and usually its because, the inmate is ill, got hurt, passed away, or could be getting ready to exit, but they just don't call for simple hellos. Good luck,,,

If your Mother has been listed as the person to contact for any reason, that is who they will talk to and by law they have to and can legally only speak to her. It may be just to release paperwork to her and then could be something urgent. Try not to worry until you know what it is about and you have details. The best thing to do is to wait and find out what the info is. Maybe he has a medical issue or a legal issue. Didn't they tell your mother what the info was or did they just call to say that they had info?
