How long: A real true love can last as long as the distance will make it.

Problems and solutions:
-Communication (it is incredibly difficult to communicate when it isn't face to face) The best thing for communication is the phone and an unlimited long distance plan, AIM, and lots of letters and carepackages to show that you care.

-Trust (unless you truly trust each other it can't work. Period.) There really is no solution if you don't trust your partner. If you cannot trust them, there must be a reason and although it may be possible to overcome it, long distance will only create distrust if the grounds are shaky to begin with.

-Devotion (cheating also will break the relationship to shreds, guarunteed) To have a success long distance story, you have to be 100% certain that this is the person you want to be with. If you are both certain and sure that this is it, and worth fighting for, distance is no object.

-Outside opinions and relationships (people will often criticize the relationship and seeing other people together can make it difficult.) Rant. Just rant with your partner about it because they're going through the same thing and some good old fashioned whining can actually be therapeutic. Just don't concentrate on it too much, just get it out and get it over with.

-Missing each other (The most obvious) This doesn't have a cure, but it can be made better with pictures, videos, lots of letters, recordings of each other's voices, and lots of talking.

I'm still far away from my boyfriend and we see each other every few weeks for a few hours at a time. I go throughout my daily routine and talk with friends and do things, but I also come home and talk with him, plan for our upcoming times together and make him things when I'm especially missing him. Putting my "missing-him" energy into things I know he'll enjoy helps a lot.

I don't agree with John G saying that it can't last very long. Me and my man were together long-distance from January of last year until September. And even though we visit each other now it worked for us and we're still going strong ^.^
