My son is a wiggle worm when it comes to changing his diaper as well. I think most kids are! We have a basket of toys on the shelf of his changing table. I can quickly grab a toy for him to play with to keep his attention. Usually I just keep this stash of toys there so he only gets to play with them while he's getting changed. Also, I made a little photo album with pictures of friends and family that he doesnt get to see very often. This way, several times a day (during changes) we practice the names of important people (grandma, grandpa, uncle, babysitters, etc.) and he becomes familiar with their faces even if he doesn't get to see them much. Also, a lot of the pictures are of the people WITH my son - so he can make the connection that they are people we know. We sing songs, practice words and count to ten. Also, I keep some special toys in his diaper bag for when he is getting changed in a public restroom or somewhere where he might make a loud and embarrasing fuss. I haven't taken the route of moving him to the floor, bed, couch or whatever for changings - mostly because he has learned that even when he wants to squirm or fuss, this is the way we do it. I NEVER leave him unattended - he's laying between the wall and me on his changing table - so he is safe. If I have to leave the room - even for a second - he comes with. Try keeping a stash of changing table toys and making a little photo album - you can even change the pictures around to peak his interest.

If there is no strap to hold them in, you should get rid of the changing table and start using the floor. There are many dangers, including brain damage, if baby falls off the changing table. It only takes seconds. Always better to be safe than sorry.

A 1yr old is waaaay too big to be chaged on a changing table! Put him on a blanket on the floor or the bed to change him from now on! The table is becoming too dangerous for him now.

Pretty tough acomplishment at this age. You may want to move to different space? The bed or on a blanket on the floor? The straps on the table may help, but he can still flop around. A toy or singing may distract him for awhile. Watch out for throwing toys though. Good luck. ;-)

try hanging something from the ceiling that is cool for him to look at, thats what we did in the day care i worked at. small stuffed animals are good. there seems to be an abundance of them around the house. I used thread and a push pin, tie the object to one end and make a loop with the other put the needle part in the loop and push into the ceiling do a group of 5-6 objects.

First, I have the diaper and wipes right there so I don't have to step away. I give them a small toy, such as a ball or car to hold and look at. I also sing songs to them or talk to them about something. I also use this time to practice words with them such as saying mommy, daddy, baby, ball etc. Just anything to keep their attention. Good luck!

Change the baby in a crib or on the floor!
And things that you wouldn't normally give them like keys, cell phones etc can keep little hands busy.

Changing tables are one of those "must haves" that you don't really need. Put a towel on the floor and change him there.

thats why I have never bothered buying one, I have always changed my babies from birth on up on the floor couch or bed. Just seemed easier and safer. Maybe you can buy some sort of strap to put around him?
