I was shopping at Wal-Mart and when I got the register, the cashier did not notice the microwave oven I was purchasing in the carriage. She did not ring it up & I did not say anything. The buzzer never went off as I walked out so I figured it was nice freebee. Problem is, this damn microwave does not work!!!!! Am I considered a customer since it was not rung up? How do I go about getting a refund?

You can't get a refund on something you didn't pay for in the first place. Just go pick out another one and pay for it, then if it's broken you can take it back. Guess it wasn't such a nice freebee.

You should put the microwave back in the box, and take it back to the store where you can say that you only realized that it wasn't rung up when you looked at the receipt when planning to return it. That way you can get a working microwave and pay for it as you should have all along, and you don't have to worry about being on the evening news as the unknown Wal-Mart thief on the security video. Yes, I know it's still not telling the truth, but the whole episode should teach you that you can't just steal things and feel fine about it. It would be one thing if it was a pack of gum that they overlooked, but a microwave? That's a huge theft. You should be ashamed of yourself, or ashamed of wasting everyone's time with this idiocy if you're lying.

Sounds like that cashier needs to be retrained as we are trained for BOB (Bottom of Basket) and LISA (Look Inside Always).

As far as a refund, you stole the item! I laughed right out loud when you said that your microwave doesn't work. Maybe it's karma's way of telling you to PAY for your items?? It was probably a return that went back out on the sales floor by mistake and the box was retaped?? Did you learn anything from this experience? I hope that security was watching and the next time you enter that same store that you get busted! Our store does this....it's called cameras you dumb ***!

Why would want a refund on an item you didn't purchase? This doesn't make sense. A refund typically implies getting the money back that you put in to something in the first place.
And shame on you for not saying anything and walking out the door. The fact that it doesn't work seems like Karma to me........ You know this is why prices go up year after year right? Shoplifting takes a pretty substantial chunk out of a companies profits, which forces them to raise the prices to compensate.
Anyhow, off my soapbox now....

If you want a microwave that works, I suggest going back and actually purchasing one. This way you're covered if it doesn't work....

This is what is know as poetic Justice. You didn't pay for it so why should you get a refund. Since larceny dwells in your heart try this, go back to Wal-Mart purchase a new oven identical to the stolen one then return the stolen, non-functioning oven for a refund. This isn't to much word for you is it? I ask because thieves tend to be lazy, no offense intended just an observation.

lol, easy come easy go ;)

Since you are already a thief, you will probably want to return the item for your money back. (although you never paid at all)

If you like, call the store and ask what the return policy is for an microwave without a receipt.
(you will have to lie and say that you paid, but you lost the receipt)
Wal-Mart has recently changed it's return policies so you may be out of luck.

Of course, the only way to save yourself from the Lake of Fire at this point is to admit that you did wrong, throw away the device, and buy one honestly!

Well, if this individual took this item back and admitted to stealing, he would be facing as much as 5 years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine. It's printed in Walmart bathroom stalls all over the country. If the microwave worked, you wouldn't even be asking a question Good luck.are absolutely in the wrong. It is up to you to decide what to do, whether you want to continue acting immorally and illegally, or if you are to do the right thing and deal with the consequences of your actions.

Wow. That's what is called instant karma. You stole an item, and now cannot enjoy it because it doesn't work. You can't take it back without a receipt, which you don't have. I guess you have the priviledge of throwing it away.

Next time, don't steal. (A mistake on their part is no justification for you not paying for it. Theft is theft.)

No, you are not a customer. You are a shoplifter: a thief. You knowingly left WalMart with a microwave oven you KNEW you hadn't paid for.

The cashier's failure to notice is not the issue. You KNEW she didn't see it, you KNEW you didn't pay for it, and you walked out.

I see no reason to give you further advice that I know you won't follow. Asking you to do the honorable thing here is ridiculous, we know you won't go back and pay for it.
