Pecieved quality. Truth is, there are several resale high quality American made bargins. For example, the Toyota Matrix has a higher resale value over the Pontiac Vibe. They are both the same car, made from the same plant in CA. Toyota has a better percieved quality impression over Pontiac so the general public continues to pay extra. Personally, I have had excellent luck with GM and Ford and will continue to pay less.

I have had 2 hondas and 2 toyotas. If you've ever had either- you will know why they maintain a high resell value. First of all they last forever! My 1986 honda accord has over 300,000 miles on it and run like it's new. My 1990 toyota camry has over 250,000 and still runds like it's new. I sold both of those cars in the last few years. I have a 1995 accord- still in perfect condition and a 2005 Camry. I will ONLY ever own a Toyota or a Honda. They last forever! You have to do standard maintenance on them, but they never break down.

Simple, supply and demand.
It depends on rental and fleet cars. A Ford taurus loses about 60% of value in 1 year because there is to many in rental and fleet inventories. When the taurus are turned back into Ford, they become very hard to move because there are more cars than buyers. For an example in 2007 you can't even buy a taurus, they are made for rental and fleet only. In 2008 there will be a taurus brought back to the public, it is the old Ford 500-Whoopie. The wholesale value on a 2006 Ford Taurus is $9700.00 that should say enough.

They are generally very reliable cars which means that they are in demand hence the high prices.
They can shrug off high mileages as long as they've been maintained carefully.
They also regularly score in top ten of JD Power and other satisfaction surveys.

It is a simple supply and demand.
If they were not worth the price they wouldn't buy them.
That doesn't mean your find is good or bad.
