Ali is a high school graduate. He went to Louisville National High School in his hometown of Louisville, Ky. Being an athlete, and a boxer at that, made him very popular in school though academically, he was way below average. In fact, his teachers would not let him graduate because of his poor grades, but the principal, who was very fond of Clay, intervened saying that one day, the school's claim to fame would be that it educated Cassius Clay. He was right after all.
