i lost the instructions to my shower filter so i was wondering how you back wash a shower filter...

It depends on the make and model. The shower filters I've seen are disposable, so there is no backwashing. Go to the Web site for the company whose filter you have and see if you can read up. If there is no specific procedure for backwashing the filter on the company's Web site, call it and ask.
