Yes, I'm afraid so. Having been blessed by being a Christian through most of my life I would've never thought the devil could bother a person through dreams.
However, for some time I'd wake up from sleeping with gloom and doom feelings, and I'd even seen demons trying to hit me in my sleep. My dad, who is an old Pentecostal preacher, prayed for me, and cast that junk out of my life by taking authority over it. I was attacked a couple nights later, and had to take authority over it myself, and since then I haven't been bothered. Before this period of time I never even thought the devil could bother a Christian, but as you may know we are in a spiritual battle often, and are fighting a spiritual war. A Christian can take authority over the devil in ones dreams by stating the blood of the lamb over comes, and through prayer. The earnest, effectual prayer of a righteous man avails much. Each truly spiritual Christian is on a spiritual hot seat many times if they will not compromise.

If the devil himself wanted to take over you it's unlikely that he would require dreams to do it, saying that though, the dream-state does leave you open to the influence of the world around you, spirtual and physical

It was actually a well known belief in ancient cultures, and they kept amulets/trinkets and done other supersticious things in order to protect themselves from demons whilst they slept.
As for whether it is true or not, the answer will vary depending on who you ask, but I think it sounds like a fairy-tale, and anybody who claims to be is either faking or has a mental disorder like multiple personalities, or skitzophrenia, or awake-dreams (hallucinations). These people should be locked away to protect society, and people should medicate/try to cure them.

I think Freddy Krueger and the Boogey Man have dibs on our dreams, but hey, he is the devil. He could probably broker a sweet deal to get the rights to our slumber.

The Devil can only influence you, he can only take you over if you turn your mind over to HIM

Nope. Mythological creature. Can't harm you any more than the monster in your closet or the garden gnome.

hell yah! Maybe some just to mess with you, cause you fear or anxiety, something subtle. And then some to totally take you out of your reality and cause all kinds of problems. I'm not really sure what kinds of things permit him to do this though. He can't just do it to anybody.

No. I have the love and mercy of the one true God in my life (ie, salvation of my eternal soul thru His Son, Jesus).
