You can renew your British passport at the UK embassy or consulate.
How long have you overstayed?
Did you come on a Visa Wavier Program (Green I-94) or a B1/B2?
If you came in on the VWP and get caught, you will be deported without any recourse - no immigration judge, nothing. And a bar from coming back.
But in either case if you go back without too long of an overstay you can possibly not be barred.
Does your word not mean anything? When you applied for the visa (if you have a B1/B2) or when you landed in the USA you promised that you would leave within the time period.
I am continually amazed at the dishonesty of people like you. That is the problem with illegal aliens (like you) who have no self respect and their word is of no value.

Yes, you can renew it from overseas regardless of whether you used it to exit the UK or not, it doesn't matter what your country thinks about the UK passport, your UK citizenship remains in tact. When it comes time to renew your passport, (do this when you have about 8 months validity left) take a visit to the UK embassy and renew. It only takes about 5 to 10 days.

You can have it renewed at your nearest British consulate or embassy but it does not entitle you to remain in the USA if you were admitted on a visa waver or for a specific period of time which you have outrun.

I would not let it lapse if you are in a foreign land.
The British Embassy is the place to renew when overseas.
Allow plenty of time as delays are likely.
