Make sure you're pans have been sprayed with grease and floured so they don't stick. When they are done cooking, allow the cake to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes. Then run a knife around the inside edge of the pan and turn them onto a wire cooling rack.
When completely cool, put in the freezer for 30 minutes before frosting them. The frosting will go on more smoothly and you won't wind up with little flakes of cake in your frosting.
Good luck!

Don't you just hate that? You may have tried to remove it from the pan before it was cooled enough. Next time, try using Baker's Secret spray to prep the pan (it has the oil and flour already mixed), it works really well. Let the cake cool for about 20 minutes before you try to take it out of the pan. As far as the one tonight, you can "glue" it back together by using a bit of frosting in the split. Good luck, it'll still taste good.

Leave the cake to cool off for 5 minutes or so before you take it out of the oven to the rack. The sudden difference in temperature split the cake.

I'm assuming you took it out of the pan. If you do that while it's still too warm, it's more likely to split. Always cool your cake in the pan, then remove it.

You have to leave it in the pan to cool, you must have taken it out of the pan to soon, while it was still warm. However if you piece it together and place it on a plate, frost it and you will probably not even notice.

If your using icing, just take the two sections and ice them together. once your done icing the whole cake, the icing in the middle will blend in, and, you'll have even more icing, so it'll be more delicious. lol.

Yup, it's very fragile until it cools. However, shove it back together and ice it well. Nobody will ever know.
