I had the same problem with my dog. It's hard to deal with, I must admit, but over time he has stopped. If he's a puppy, you really need to coax him: Do anything to get him to run! What helped my puppy was alowing him to go offleash at parks. He really enjoyed that, and never sat down!

A dog's natural reaction to you trying to pull him forward is to pull back. When you have your dog on a leash, first of all make sure his collar is positioned correctly. It should lay around his neck where it attaches to the skull. Make sure the collar is there, and hold the leash UP ... if you're having trouble picturing this, watch a dog show when you can and see how the handlers walk the dogs (position of the lead around the neck, etc). If you pull the leash up and start to walk, your dog may struggle for a second, but will soon realize what is expected of him and will follow. Using small treats to coax him for the first few steps may help, but they should be used more as a reward after he does the proper walking behavior.

Practice in the house on a slippery floor. Don't look at him (sometimes they act as stubborn as a mule if you stare at them), just command 'let's go', give him a quick tug on the leash and walk. You may have to give him a bit of a pull the first couple of steps (perhaps even a drag) but he will go.
If all else fails take him to obedience school.

It's a psychological thing. When you first started to teach your dog, something spooked your pet and now he doesn't like it. So solution is to work with him around the problem. Unfortunately that takes a lot of time and PATIENCE. That might have been the reason why the animal didn't like the leash to begin with. (you might have been to forceful)

that is very odd. unless the dog has some pain when walking.
i would need to know if the dog will walk and run with out the lead . if that is the case then try using a long rope to get him to follow along then shorten the rope as time goes on.

Coaxing him with food is a good idea. Also let him walk around with the leash on and just drag it around. When you first start walking him call his name constantly and give him alot of leash. When he does walk give him lots of encouragement. At first let him lead you then when he gets used to walking take charge.
