Then punish them asyou would if they were a child. Spank them, put them in the corner, take everything away. things like that. SHow them you mean business. Telling them "NO" does not wory anymore. Discipline them as you would if they were still young children. Goodluck

As with any child-discipline issue, remember the goal. Think about yourself, if someone is condescending do you feel like being mature or do you feel like yelling and defending yourself? Your teen is throwing fits etc and won't listen, make the consequences fit the crime. If they won't listen and are throwing fits, then they can hardly be trusted to visit wth friends etc without a sitter or a nanny. You wouldn't let a small child walk to school alone, or even watch most TV shows. I would write your teen a letter stating these things (they can't talk back to a letter). Let them know that any further temper tanrums will be met with removal of privileges and that they have one week to prove that they can handle the privileges they currently have. Ask them for an essay/letter of at least 4 pages explaining why they need to do these chores and things, what it means to be an adult and their own plan for doing these things and earning more privileges. If their essay is not handed in at the end of the week, if they have not completed their chores, homework and other responsibilities, then they lose privileges. If after they have received the letter, they throw a fit, they lose a privilege, no argument, no negotiation and no getting it back in two weeks unless they earn it. Once a privlege is lost it must be EARNED back. If they come flying out of their room enraged by the letter simply say in a calm tone of voice, "You are throwing a fit, you will no longer be able to visit with friends without an adult supervisor (or whatever would be most heinous to them). I will not listen to anymore." Then walk out of the room without another look or word. You can't argue with someone who isn't there. They will probably chase you trying to argue simply ignore them as if they are not there and are not speaking. They will get over it. Then they will come back pleading at which point, you remind them that they need to earn it. The essay will make them think it through and without you to fight with they will have to deal and grow up or do without.
In a calm moment, speak with your teen about becoming an adult and make sure you express your respect for who they are becoming and that you know they will be great (even if it isn't exactly true, they will work hard to live up to your faith if they feel respected and believed in).

If they are acting like a child treat them like a child. Make them come straight home from school, and be in bed by 9. Don't let them stay home alone or be on Internet sites. Don't let them have a cell phone, don't let them go anywhere without you.

Also, for other punishments, don't allow TV, computer, phone, or friends to come over.

I am almost 14 and these are the things that would really get to me if I was being punished, so hopefully I helped.

NO car, NO stereo, NO phone. Dig out all the old toys he or she had when they were little and tell them that's now all the privileges they have until they can prove they can grow up and be more responsible and considerate and follow the rules you set forth.

This is just an idea. I would think if you chose to do this, your teen will just think your stupid and sarcastic.
NO money or FREEBIES from mom and dad! This usually gets the point across for most of the parents I know.

Pick the age he is acting and treat him like that age - early bedtime, no driving - you can tell him - if you want to act like a 10 year old (or whatever age) I'm going to treat you like a 10 year old until you start acting more mature.

I went on strike with mine. No doing his laundry, making his lunch for school, driving him if he needed a ride, no allowance (an allowance is not appropriate for a baby). There are million little things that we do for our kids without even thinking about it - go on strike and see how much they miss. It does take about a week - but the behavior change is worth it.

The other thing that I did was mine was rude to company. I returned the favor with his friends when they visited - listening in on their conversations, sitting in the same room as them, in general being a pest. No more rude to my company - ever again.

Maybe show them how the "real world" is, that fun and games time is over. If they have a job, make them "pay rent" if they don't like the rules of the house they can find their own place.

Wow, you sound like a pushover.
I think you should send them to Boot Camp.
Seriously.
Or get in a class that helps teens and their parents have less problems.
