You get out of life what you put into it. I think religion can add to a person's life if approached with some common-sense, but I don't think a person needs religion or deity to live a full life or for their lives to have more meaning. Your life has meaning to you and those you love, and those who love you. The sad fact beyond that is that no one else cares about your life unless you invent something that benefits all of mankind, or you do something important. So 90% or more of us end up meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Absolutely! Religions are a man-made entity. They only serve those in charge of their particular church. They seek to bankrupt their followers both monetarily and spiritually by taking their money (tithes) and leading them to believe that they will never be able to achieve harmony until they die and "go to heaven." The churches and god-figures today largely exist in the belief that man should rule over the Earth. This is the biggest mistake in thinking in all of human history, and has led us down a road of self-hate and self-destruction as a species. The laws of man differ from one another in the same way that the laws of the gods do. There is only one realm in which all matter in the universe operates on the same plane. It is at a sub-atomic level. You, a cow, a distant star, and black holes are no different at that level. This is where the mystery lies. Mankind is just starting to scratch the surface of this new awareness, and I hope that we do not self-destruct before we have the chance to discover its secrets.

I think a lot of people will say no because religion is so hard wired in their brain but I really think it is possible. To me the meaning of life is to endure, to take on all the ups and downs in your life and learn from them and pass them on, if you can't do that to me your life is really meaningless. No matter how religious a person is I don't think his life's meaning should center around God (unless you are involved in the clergy) because there is so much more in life to offer like family, friends, and love. Believe what you want to believe but be careful not to let God dictate it.

Why would life have more meaning without any religions or God? Some people's moral standards are based on what they learned from their religion. Some people are not murderers, adulterers or thieves because of the Ten Commandments. Some people are good, kind people because they want to please God.
So, how would life have more meaning--I mean we'd just have 10 times more crime going on than we do now.

what are you comparing it to? a life with love and romance has more meaning than a life without love and romance. A life with religion has more meaning than a life without religion, but religion does not have to be the only source of meaning...it doesn't make up for a lack of love and romance, for example.

Sure it could. If people lived the life they were given to the fullest for the short amount of time they had, instead of worrying about going to the giant Fry Daddy in hell. Life on this planet could be beautiful if only people would live it.

I believe it does. The time that most people spend worshipping a God they've never seen, I spend with my family and friends because they are the ones that give my life meaning.

Actually, no. The knowledge and acceptance of the love and mercy of the one true God, and salvation of the eternal soul thru His Son, Jesus, IS the meaning of life.
