OUCH! - this happened to my son (his nail, not his dog's). Either quickly yank it off (have someone hold onto the dog) or clip the nail off. The dog will actually have less pain once the nail is off. You know how you feel when you have a hangnail (not quite the same, but similar). Stop any bleeding by applying pressure and perhaps some liquid bandage. I would then make an appointment for tomorrow with the vet in case the dog needs any antibiotics or better bandaging. Poor Puppy! Good Luck!

Clip it off, but not anymore than you have to. If the nail looks like it is going to be really short then take it to a vet or groomer. More than likely if you clip it off the dog will be fine. After you clip it make sure you keep and eye on it for about a week. If there is no swelling or anything unusual there is no need to worry.

I'd take the dog to either the vet or a good groomer. Either one should know what to do. Take it in NOW though... if that nail gets caught on something and gets torn off, your dog is going to bleed ALL OVER the place, plus I'm sure it's causing the dog pain.

Its not hanging by a nerve, the quick is the blood vessel that supplies blood to the nail. You should take him to the vet to make sure there is no infection. If its a dew claw, have it removed.

If you feel up to doing it yourself, this is what we did when my mom's Boxer pup tore her nail there: Try your best to clip the nail off without damaging the quick. If you can't do it without getting the quick, have a steptic (can't remember it that's the exact name) pen on hand to apply to stop the bleeding. You should soak the foot in hydrogen peroxide mixed with water to prevent infection. Bandage the WHOLE foot in gauze and tape.

Or take him/her to the vet and have them do it.

You need to take it off. It will eventually break off by itself but you should have the vet remove it that way they can stop the bleeding right away.

Clip it off, it will grow back. Not a bit different than ripping your fingernail. (except that the dog will feel less pain than you would.)

clip it off before it is caught on something and ripped off. Then keep an eye on it for infection.

Please take them to the vet asap. It probably hurts and they shouldn't have to suffer. My Jack Russell had the same problem...so I thought.
