The overwhelming theme that emerged from the many responses I received to my last question was that God will hold me "accountable" for not following his will. How will God hold me accountable?

Here's the question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070219152212AATd4Nw

If you are not saved, then you will be judged under the law of God and will recieve proper punishment based on all the sins you've commited.

We are accountable for our actions. Sin is against God's will. All of us have sinned, so we all naturally deserve the due punishment for it: death. Obviously, all of our bodies die.

But the soul never dies, so if our sin is not forgiven (if we don't let Jesus forgive us), then we will always suffer an 'eternal death', which is the punishment for it. That's where hell comes in. We cannot enter heaven without being perfect, becuase heaven and God are perfect, and can't exist in the midst of evil and sin. We can only be righteous (perfect) through Jesus---because he led a sinless life so that we could be saved through his death.

Jesus took the punishment we deserve--literally. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He suffered more than we can imagine... just for the sake of love.

Hell, by definition, is the absence of God. If God is not present, there is no peace, rest, light, mercy, or love. There is only pain and suffering. God created hell for Satan and the fallen angels, not us. But once we are there, Satan tortures us, because he hates God and we are made in the image of God.

God doesn't want us to go to hell, and yet he must keep his promise and let us decide--if he didn't, it wouldn't be true love in the first place.

Knowing all of these things, it's obvious that God doesn't want to see us in hell, yet still, we have that choice.

So, in an act of incredible mercy, he gave Jesus, the final sacrifice through whom we could be atoned for our sin and not suffer the punishment we deserve.

You are accountable for your own actions. And when it comes to heaven or hell, you must be perfect to enter heaven. And the only way to do that is through God, who became flesh and led a sinless life so that through him, we could live forever too.

You will not be punished for not following God's WILL. You will be judged for thinking yourself above the Grace of God if you reject His free Gift of eternal life offered through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; who was our propitiation for sin. That punishment is self imposed, as the ransom has already been paid. We just need to repent and accept it by Faith. The punishment, according to God's Word is that you will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire. Is that harsh? Considering what Jesus went through to pay for our sins, I don't think so. Regardless, I didn't write the Book. I just believe it.

I hope this is precise enough.

God gave you his word for you to know his will. If you hear his word and reject what he had to say then you will be held accountable and you can't use the old saying "I didn't know they law so you can't hold me accountable for it" That doesn't work. Try telling a judge that you didn't know it was against the law to kill someone and see what he tells you.

You will continue the suffering imposed by acting on your own desires and force of will
