My female cat, who has not been fixed, is going to be 2 in October and has still never had a period or gone into heat. Is this normal or could there be something wrong with her? Granted I'm glad she hasn't, we don't plan to breed her or anything but I'm afraid something may be wrong with her :/ Please help!

I suppose I should add (since people seem to be upset with me that she hasn't been fixed) that she is a strictly indoor kitty. NEVER is she allowed outside. But I didn't realize that getting her fixed could prevent certain cancers and the like, that is reason enough for me.

But I realize how many kittens are abandoned out there. It breaks my heart, and I would never let an unfixed cat outside and take that risk.

Your vet is the best person to ask. I've heard of dogs and cats though that never ovulate. The best solution though, especially if you're not planning on breeding her, is to have her spayed. In a female cat's lifetime, she and all of her offspring produce over 7,000 cats. Think of all of those poor cats in shelters waiting for homes...it's not fair to them. And you don't want to find out the hard way that your cat can have kittens. Spaying is also healthier for dogs and cats; it decreases the risk of certain types of cancer.

in the adventure that your female cat does no longer mate, she would be in a position to bypass into oestrus as usually as each 2 to 3 weeks, for quite a few months each and each 300 and sixty 5 days, till she the two pals or is spayed. Cats as youthful as 4 months old can bypass into the warmth cycle, and that they could be spayed as quickly as achievable till they are pedigreed and you desire to reproduce from them. If spaying isn't on the instant achievable then your vet are in a position to offer her hormones to provide up the cycle. after all, the cycle is incredibly uncomfortable for her, whether it does no longer inconvenience you. Your cat would be in warmth for one or 2 days, yet won't incredibly come each and each of how out of it till you have her spayed.

Cats don't go into heat strictly based upon age. It's based upon season of the year (early spring - as early as late February) and the amount of light.

But please, please, please - do the responsible thing and get her spayed!! Not only is it healthier for her (prevents everything from cancer to benign tumors), but why bring more unwanted pets into the world?? There are already thousands abandoned or euthanized every year.

she could be like one of our cats and have a silent heat. this can be dangerous because since she is not spayed she could become pregnant and you may not know until she is either further along and you have an unwanted batch of kittens or she may even have a miscarriage.

If you don't plan to breed her, why on earth haven't you gotten her fixed? That is an accident waiting to happen.

Nothing is wrong with her, it's normal.

Bring her to the vet and have her fixed ASAP. If something is wrong with her, they'll tell you.
