Miniature Schnauzers are good small dogs. They do not get to be very big when full grown. They reach about 16-20 pounds and some not even that. They are easily trained, very loyal, affectionate and good with children. Contact a reputable breeder, or try to rescue one. There are schnauzer rescue sites all over the world. Please do not buy from a pet store, they support puppy mills!

The best little dog in my opinion is a Coton de Tulear. You are thinking what! It is a french dog and there fur is as soft as cotton. They are very friendly and do not weigh over 12 pounds. They are white, fluffy and cudley. A good second choice would be a King Cavalier Spaniel.

boston terrier is what i have and he is great. make sure that you research any dog that you decide to get, b/c they all have diff needs. for instance, the boston is very smart, very energetic and needs lots of attention. he also has to be trained not to bark a lot, which he can be, but it takes your time. don't forget that the shelter's often have lots of wonderful dogs that need love, and you won't pay as much as the other's. (mine was $500!)

I recommend a yorkie. They are small, very smart, and great companions. They also don't shed so they are great for allergies. I'm allergic to most animals (including down pillows) and my yorkie hasn't even made me sneeze once.
