I was a human resource manager at Home Depot. There are many shady things going on in that company and I refused to be part of it. I walked out the door 3 years ago after my store manager was found embezzling and stealing...yes, the store manager...and he was doing it for years with the blessing of the regional manager. I sat through training sessions where we were encouraged to withhold people's final pay (which in this state is required to be paid out before you escourt them out the door). People are fired for no cause on day 89 of their probation so that they can't get unemployment and because the store overhired for the season. As a result of that termination, they're not eligible to ever be hired at a dozen other retail stores.

I haven't gone back since and wouldn't give them a penny of my money. Yes, they do have better paint...but I can go to Sherwin Williams and do just as well for the same price.

Kristen,

Since you seem to be a woman, you may find that Lowes would be more to your style. This is a general statement, not a sexist one. I work for a large company that sells to both Lowes and Home Depot. Numerous consumer satisfaction surveys find that a large majority of women prefer Lowes over Depot. Men trend equally in the other direction.

Home Depot is better. They have better prices and wider variety of things. I go shopping for one little thing in Lowes and I eventually find it after 3 hours and it's expensive, but I find it in much less time in Home Depot and it's a better deal. So i much prefer Home Depot.

I think Lowes has more choices of things but Home Depot has better prices.

I personally had an awful experience at Lowes. Lowes gave me estimates to do work on my home I also went to two other places. Lowes had lower prices because they didn't include enough materials to complete the job. I of course had to purchase all the materials to finish my job even though my loan was based on their estimates. I learned alot from this experience.

Just my experience.

they both serve the same market, with Lowes aiming at the higher end market, while Home Depot is more working class.

Lowes has better quality items while home depot buys in bulk and at the cheapest price. don't purchase furniture at either place as its made of pine and thats the softest wood and marks easily.

LOWES!!!! No customer has ever died in a LOWES. There have been customers that have gotten killed in Home Depot.
Plus the employees are more friendly at LOWES.
