I believe that 'Good Behaviour' SHOULD be given or otherwise there would be no reason to be 'good' whilst in custody. Just think... hundreds of offenders locked up together with NOTHING TO LOOSE. It would be TOTAL CHAOS and the warders would not be able to control the prison safely.
Saying that... HALF of the sentence (for those sentenced to under 4 years) for good behaviour IS too much 'REMISSION'.
I also believe that prisoners should be made to do HARD LABOUR unless unfit to do so.
My question would be should LIFE MEAN LIFE?

I think any crime where others are hurt or injured should carry full sentence. Especially sex crimes such as rape or child molestation. However, our prison system is overcrowded in part by the "3 strikes, you're out" law. If I had 2 previous felonies, and then got caught with a joint, I would get no pardon, full sentence, and it is usually no less than 10 years. Not that I condone drug use, but I feel we should not pay $45,000 a year to house an inmate and give them medical treatment for 10 years for minor possession. There should be no "black and white" clear cut rules for prison time as each circumstance is different.

I think they should have to serve the full amount of time they were given and I do not agree with the "good behaviour" releases. I do not believe that prison is a good place for rehabilitation and it is rare that criminals are rehabilitated in our prison system.
I guess it would depend on the crime and whether or not they are repeat offenders though.

In some states they do serve the amount of time they are sentenced. It is called 'truth in sentencing.' I was a CO in Texas where they recieved good time. Now I am a CO in Delaware. Delaware enacted 'truth in sentencing' in '93. They basically abolished parole. If they get sentenced to 10 years, they are serving 10 years.

I think it depends on the crime if they are in for something minor or had good reason for the crime or maybe it was a crime of passion then yes they should get out early if they keep there nose clean in prison but not murderers and peodophiles they should rot

Depends upon the crime and what they do with their time on the inside. Be very careful who you pass judgement on, as one day it could be you, your son, daughter, husband, mother, father, grandchild or just someone near and dear to you. Trust me you will feel alot different. Or for that matter, go work in any jail/prison facility and you will have a different outlook. I just don't believe in passing judgement on anyone. That is God's job, not mine or yours.

The point about that is to give them an incentive to "behave well". They are encouraged to improve themselves and they are rewarded for it by early release..
but whatever.. harsher sentences are still more effective...
