when i took the home pregnancy test only two days after i should have started my period the positive line showed up immediately and dark. could this be because i have high levels of hCG? i read that hCG levels are higher with twins?

Only and hCG blood test, along with a guesstimate date of conception will tell you whether its twins or more. The at home pregnancy test just picks up the hormone as a positive, not a strength. Also your hCG levels double every day, which is why you would need a date of conception to tell. Also, when you're pregnant with multiples, your symptoms are very advanced. I had morning sickness and severe fatigue and breast tenderness right away. (I was pregnant with quads, but had triplets) But it sounds like your chances are good for twins. Good luck!

I think you will be just fine, after you begin seeing your doctor.......and that should be very soon! Twins are so much fun and my family has many identical twins. In fact, my mother's grandmothers on BOTH sides of her family were identical twins!
Do you know what type blood you have? I only ask, because I am AB negative, and both my sons were born with a postive RH factor. Learn about Rhogam if you are RH negative, for certain, if your husband is RH positive. You will be so lucky to have things like pictures of this baby or babies in your womb. They did not have this when I gave birth in 1967, and 1969. In fact, my doctor, first delivery, didn't even believe in Rhogam and would NOT give it to me. My second, were conjoined twins, and one survived to become strong, smart, and handsome! I loved being pregnant, as strange as that sounds to most people.
I think you are doing fine, and by going to the doctor very soon, you will be all calmed down about this whole thing, and excited to maybe having twins! I envy you! How wonderful!

I took a test a day before my missed period and it showed positive immediately. I also have several sets of twins in my immediate family but I am only having one child.

Identical twins are spontaneous. Fraternal Twins are passed down. So, if you have 2 in there, they might not be identical. Good Luck!

Could be, but it's probably a BOY!
HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin -- and gonadotrophin is the male gonads, the testicles, which secrete testosterone ... and you're probably getting a reading for higher testosterone levels. I did that with my boys and very faint with the girls.

No it's not a sign of twins. It could be that you got a fresh testing kit that hadn't been setting on the store shelf for months.
