I personal 5 pit bulls. in trouble-free terms a million of my pit bulls has their ears cropped. I had it done through a professional on the vet. it is a primary beauty technique. The animal does no longer conflict through, he's asleep at the same time as that is done. it may cost everywhere from $100 and fifty to $three hundred depending upon which vet you opt for. It takes about 2 weeks for the canines's ears to heal. that is not any diverse than having your newborn infant circumsized. Is it "human cruelty " to have your newborn infant circumsizied at the same time as the child has no say in the count number? No, and neither is having a canines's ears professionaly cropped. it is an elementary beauty surgical operation. besides the undeniable fact that, it may well be seen "animal cruelty" to target to crop your canines's ears your self. i have seen alot of horror thoughts the position people have taken scissors and reduce the ears actual off, without anesthesia, and the ears grow to be contaminated, and the canines will grow to be fairly traumatized through the completed adventure. So, go away it to the professionals.

Ear cropping is usually done anytime between 9-11 wks of age. Most vets that do cropping will not do them if the pup is beyond 12 wks.
Owned by 5 Cropped & Docked Dobermans
p.s. tails are docked within 3 days after they are born along with dewclaws..... not 2 wks.

For your pup's sake, I suggest that you go with natural ears. The cropping will only make people more wrongly terrified and will cause more lashing out at your dog.
But if you're really set, generally 12 to 16 weeks is a good time. It's before their cartilage starts . . .I don't know how to put this, setting or 'hardening'?
Also know, the pain of it isn't just a one time deal. For a crop to heal in the proper position, it involves pulling their ears to stretch the scar tissue to prevent it bunching up.

9 - 11 weeks. If it is any later than that the cartilege in the ear may have already set so the ears won't stand properly. If you do decide to crop, make sure that the vet is clear as to what type of crop you want. Battle crop, short crop, show crop, Long crop, etc. You may have to draw it out to get the shape you want. Make sure you really want to do this because it is painful for the dog. Also the dog might try to rip off the tape so you might have to make frequent trips back to the vet to get them re-taped. Ask if the your vet will give pain killers too.

Don't do it! It's painful, cruel, and unnecessary (not to mention illegal in many parts of the world). When I was young my family got a boxer that had already has his ears cut. When we got him, we had to keep taping his ears up. You could tell how much his ears hurt and he just wanted it to be over. Don't do it to your dog. Think about how much it would hurt if you did it to yourself...it's no different for your dog.

Very very young, otherwise it cannot be done. But why do it at all? It is purely for appearance and causes the dog a lot of uneccesary pain and discomfort. Leave your dogs ears the way they are. It is illegal where i live, vets will not perform the procedure.

Like everyone else said, it is really not neccessary and your pup is probably too old they need to have them done really young. Leave your dog alone, it's for the dog's benefit.

Don't do it. They look more friendly with their ears natural. It's bad enough pittys have a bad reputation when they are so smart and well manered.
