You have to have the range. Then there is a "falsetto" singing voice. I can do it easily, but have no idea if all singers can - or how to describe how to create the higher pitched sound. Find a singing coach, or music teacher - ask them.

you have to free the throat and you have to engage the diapraghm constantly. I tell my students to be conscious about the tone, but don't focus on it too much because the tendency is to force it out and what will happen is the chest voice will want to come out and when it does it will go to the throat and therefore, constricting the air. Think of your voice going down to the tummy and out your belly and this way, it will free the throat. The sound even though it's high doesn't have to be a loud sound, it's okay if it has a small sound too. Also, stress out the vowels and it will be easier and the sound will be a lot smoother. Just keep practicing and you'll get it.

I know eveyone says breath right, use falsetto, etc. A lot of times, though, when there is just one note out of my range, it cracked because of the vowel. If you modify the vowel of the word (ex. say clAWser [as in claw] instead of clOHser [as in Ohio]) it might help, even just a little bit. It might just be a matter of placement. A brigher vowel will be produced farther forward in your mouth. "OH" is produced way back in the back...the reason your voice cracks is because pressure affects your vocal cords (either with too much or not enough); a brighter vowel might keep some of that pressure off your cords. It'll go so fast and sounds SO similar, no one will even notice you changed the vowel. Professional singers do it ALL the time...maybe try that and see if it helps...

You've GOT to use your head voice, not your chest voice. Chest voice is like talk-singing. You're just changing the pitch of your voice to sound like singng. Head voice is the proper way to sing. Think of a man singing in falsetto. This is how all women sing, but it's not as unnatural as the falsetto. Experiment with your head voice. (Thinking of it as falsetto helps) Do warmups in head voice, and try to keep all your pictches in head voice. It is a much more resonant sound, so don't be freaked out if you can feeel vibrations in your nose and cheeks; it's a GOOD thing.

If you are a man... You need to practice your falsetto. This is the best way to hit the high notes without force your voice.
