where?
when?
inside or out?
how many ppl?
formal or casual??
catered or homemade or potluck?
these are the questions you should be asking yourself first.. as for myself our wedding was small, we had it outside over looking the san diego bay (i got a permit from the city costing $25 so i can have over 30ppl and alcohol) we paid for someone to come out and marry us costing about $175 and that included license and tip.we rented chairs and tables from a local party supply store.... when you mention its for a wedding most places will give you a discount for the joyous occasion.. i told everyone not to get all dressed up just me and my soon to be hubby would be and brides maid ... afterwards we had a huge celebration in the same location as my hubby bbq'd (nothing with sauce just carne asada and split chicken breasts) we had veggie and fruit plates made at safeway, a traditional cake, lots of beer, champagne and sodas... it was a wonderful april day my cost was low.. invitations ordered from hallmark ... flowers from again safeway's florists.. (cheaper there then a flower shop) what really made that place special to us was it was also where we went on our first date AND the same place he brought me back to when he proposed ~smiles~ hope this helps out some

Make a list, read lots of magazine's to get Idea's there great for getting the imagination going, don't go over board but then again depends on your budget, do you want a big wedding or a great honeymoon not all weddings are great just because there big sometimes small and personal are the best as they mean more to the couple who are getting married, not just having a big party remember your getting married so take his advise under consideration too good luck

First, you need a date....this will establish a theme for your wedding. I got married in October, so we did an autumn theme. We had coloured leaves on the tables, on our cake, even our flower girl dropped coloured leaves instead of flower petals. (not real leaves, of course!) My bridesmaids wore gold gowns, and it looked beautiful with the autumn colours. Our photos were all taken outside. Or, you could do a winter wedding and have silver or blues as your colours. Bright colours would look great for a summer or spring wedding. Buy wedding books and go and pick up a wedding organizer from your local bookstore. It will help keep ideas and such handy. I never left home without it!! Happy planning!!

Many of the large bridal sites have planning lists. After deciding what you want for your wedding, put it in a large binder & make it your constant companion.
The key to wedding planning is organization. If you are not blessed with this skill, enlist help.

start with a date and go from there---you need to make sure that where you are wanting the ceremony and reception are open, you also need to decide what other things that need to be booked are available--photographer, DJ, what else you want to use. Once you have the date and all the "booking" done then find a dress, decide on flowers, etc.

Set a date and start looking for church and/or reception location.
Buy a bride's magazine with planner. They set out time line for you depending on what you need.
