thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experience.

it's about my little nephew, I do not have children :( and it's not a money issue, but a crowded house for a while, and my brother doesn't want to buy another mattress for him, don't know exactly why... anyway, the little boy is not heavy at all and the air mattress doesn't sink.

No it is OK as long has he has sheets, pillow and blankets as needed.. A bed would make him feel more secure in life, but it is not that important if you cannot afford a bed right now. Or if you can't afford a house or apartment big enough for him to have his own room. If he is sleeping on the air matress just because he wants to - let him be - that is what little boys do. As long as he is healthy and happy, it will not hurt him.

I'm a surgeon, and I've never seen anywhere that a 12 year old sleeping on an air mattress could be harmful. If the mattress is even slightly deflated or the child "sinks" sometimes, it could result in suffocation, especially if the child sleeps face on the pillow or without a pillow. If you have any worries, ask your child if he "sinks" or his back hurts when he wakes up. If the mattress seems to deflate or he is "sinking",try to switch to a spring mattress,or if you have the money, buy him a memory foam (I think that's what their called) mattress (Tempur-Pedic,etc).
I also heard that air mattresses are sometimes uncomfortable.
I've slept on an air mattress and I sunk once at 4:00 A.M so I slept on the floor to prevent suffocation (don't make your child sleep on the floor).

My only concern would be for a deflating mattress and the possibility of suffocation. But a 5 year old child has enough where-with all to wake if something like deflation occurred. I'd say it's fine.

I spent 3 years on a mattress on the floor. From eleven to fourteen. I had no issues in any respect. My mattress broke in the midsection, yet I stayed on it till it made my back too sore, then we binned the mattress and had the mattress, till we binned that and offered a clean memory foam one. I chosen to have the subsequent 3 years without a mattress physique. I additionally get chilly quite, yet I had a quilt and pillow, and that i replaced into nice.

I do not see why it would hurt any thing to let him sleep on it just watch for it leaking and put sheets and a blanket on it
