Go with dgsxdad's 3 suggestions.
And Jermaine Taylor is very active, so he's entertaining.
Stay away from heavyweights; someone was giving you bad advice. Heavyweights lean on each other and rest too much.
Watch middleweights or lightweights.
The heavyweight division is boring right now, but if you want to watch the big fellas, check out some of the classics:
1.) Any of Tyson's fights.
2.) Ali vs. Frazier III: The Thrilla in Manilla (or any of Ali/Frazier)
3.) Ali vs. Foreman: The Rumble in the Jungle

Castillo corrales is the greatest fight of the modern era but if you are a novice fan you want to watch classics and I cant believe that no one has mentioned ali frazier 1 and 3 two of the greatest fights in history the first one was great ali had a cheek like a watermelon by the end and the third fight they were both close to death neither man was the same afterwards

Here's 3 from the last coiple of years.
1 Ebo Elder vs Courtney Burton- A 12 round fight that went back and forth with an ending that moved me.
2 Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao- This to me was probably the greatest comeback I've ever seen.
3 Diego Coralles vs Jose Luis Castillo I- Great back and forth action by 2 great champions with another great ending.
All 3 were great great fights and 2 of the 3 were fight of the year with the 3rd runner up.

Just purchase an Arturo Gatti collection to short-cut the process, a fighter known as the human-highlight reel, Gatti personifies much of the guts, heart and style of the Rocky series.
Recovering his career from back to back losses to Ivan Robinson, Gatti's career contains six or seven contenders for fight of the year.
His trilogy with Micky Ward is legendary.
Elsewhere, lookout for Archie Moore v Yvon Duralle, Ali v Frazier, Barrera v Morales, Benn v McClellan, Hearns v Hagler, Pryor v Arguello and Corrales v Castillo.
Welcome to the sport, stay with it, for all it's problems it remains the sport to which all others aspire.

Check out last year's Joe Calzaghe v. Jeff Lacy. Its one sided, as Calzaghe lit him up for the entire fight. But Lacy showed some kind of heart staying in there. You can find parts of the fight on youtube.

Amir Khan pretty much rocked the ABA, so he is quite good, however, he is not a heavyweight, so you won't see 2 giants squaring up.
You should also look into kickboxing video's, as a former pro-kickboxer, I've seen it in the ring, up close and personal, and it is a lot more violent than boxing, and pretty much every other martial art going.
