Getting a high school diploma if your home schooled?

Do you still get a high school diploma if you are home schooled in the state of new jersey?

I don't know about in new jersey, but in WV you have to get a GED.

From the little I've read, it appears that NJ homeschoolers are private schools and would be allowed to issue their own diplomas. That means your parents can issue you a diploma when they determine you have finished high school. You will NOT receive a diploma from the local public school.

I found nothing to say that you need to take the GED, so I would avoid that - it still has the stigma of drop-out, and (if you have completed homeschool through high school) you did NOT drop-out.

If you are using an accredited program, they will usually offer a diploma when you complete all of their requirements for graduation.

Any of the above should be acceptable to most colleges.

It depends on the state and the rules. You'd have to do work at a on-line school that is accreditated and issues a dipolma acceptable to NJ colleges, for example.

College is the only reason you have to worry about it.

Any diploma from any accredited institute will work for an employer.

There is also the GED which you can take and get an eqivalancy diploma.

For most colleges, you don't provide a diploma anyway, you provide a transcript and SAT/ACT scores. As a homeschooler, you parent could present a diploma, but a GED is a bad idea, it doesn't say successful homeschooler, it says dropout.

If you're interested in college, start looking at the programs you're interested in, the colleges that provide them, and what paperwork they require for admittance. It varies from school to school, regardless of the state in which you reside.

There are dozens of colleges across the country that are very homeschool-friendly, so likelihood is that you'll find one that fits your interests and needs. You should really contact your local homeschooling group, they'll have all that information on colleges that are homeschool friendly.

It depends on the program. I went through the American School and got a diploma. Penn Foster also gives diplomas to those who complete their high school program.

Both of these are accredited so their diplomas are acceptable to colleges.

Only if your parents give you one. No school can issue a diploma for an education they have no way of verifying. Parents and private schools issue their own diplomas.

Your parents simply do a certificate, but more important is a transcript of the credit hours and the subjects taken for the 4 high school years and their corresponding grades....that is what most colleges want as proof.

Actually, Yes you do need a high school diploma OR a GED to get into college. you can only get a GED if you are home schooled. But I must admit, a GED is really easy to get. It's not as hard as you would think. I aced mine.
