I need input on best places to live in LA. I could even live in cities just outside as long as it is drivable to LA downtown for work. I am looking to get an apartment for around $800 plus or minus. I don't want to live in a place high in crime and "ghetto". Nice neighborhood where you might live with your kids and such. Any input is fantastic.

I can go up to around $900 in rent, but not over a thousand. I live in Seattle right now and love it here, but looking into a great job in LA that I have been offered. I don't need high class, I just don't want to live in a place with crime and gangs. I have heard horror stories of Compton from my step dad who is from there.

I have noticed that no ones mentioned that you can not find a place that cheap in a good area not even in some bad area can you find a place for that little. I live in McAuthur Park kinda ghetto and I pay $1300.00 for a one bedroom. LA has plenty of really nice areas. Belmont Shore, Pasadena, Glendale, SilverLake, West Hollywood and many W.LA cities are all great cities to live in but the problem with all of these is that rents are becoming out of reach.

Breezer was almost right. Burbank is a good option. You can take the metrolink train to work. Although rents ain't cheap, but you might be able to find a studio for that price.

Avoid the general airport area, though.

The answer to this question is...
GLENDALE
I used to live there, Stocker at Campbell Street, and the neighborhood was great. The people who live around there really care about the area. You will love it!

check out atwater village, glassal park or eagle rock. look for apartments in those areas. further out you may find a small house to rent but it will be a longer drive to downtown
