Is there a program that can help her pay this or an exemption she can apply for? We are in Birmingham, Alabama. We are trying to find some help, but with the intrest it is climbing over $2,000. Any Ideas?

There's no age limit on paying property tax.

Many states have programs to rebate some of the property tax to the homeowner. There are often age and/or income limits to be eligible for these programs.

Check with your local area agency on aging http://www.adss.state.al.us/aaa.cfm - if there is such a program, they'd know about it and be able to give you the info.
