It's not necessarily God's job to convince you of his existence, neither can you criticize him as you have done with your assumption that God is like a parent.

I disagree entirely. God is known as the "Father" and he did create man in his image, apparently. He has laid down laws for people to worship and obey him as a father too. So I have every right to critisize him as a parent!

Is it Gods job to prove his existence? My previous question simply stated that in the Old Testament God was always visibly around, but he isn't anymore. You don't see burning bushes talking to people do you, seas parted, or mana falling from the heavens for the starving people of Africa!

I don't ask for God to prove his existence, I simply state a "fact" that God moves in a very different way to that stated in the Old Testament. Why is this so?

No, I'm not asking anyone to "join my number" 'cos I don't belong to anything and I don't ask you to agree with me!

What I'm trying to do is get a good debate going and I think I have a set of good questions which no one of a theistic position has really addressed.

Someone said that I have just supposition and not fact in this question. Is it not true that it says in the bible that God appeared as a burning bush, that he parted the seas, and mana fell from heaven? Have any such miracles recently occurred? I've not heard of any. Therefore, my question - why does God work differently now than in the Old Testament.

It's true I'm an Atheist and don't believe in any of it, however, I am truely interested in other peoples opinions on the matter. Isn't that what this place is for?

Anyone can now verify the existence of God on their own central nervous system. [Main reason why the media don’t tell you this is that they can’t make any money out of it and they would have to tidy up their act completely].

Within every human being there is a residual dormant energy that lies at the base of the spine in the Sacrum bone. (Sacrum – Greek meaning Sacred). When awakened it passes up the spinal column and pierces the fontanel bone (at the top of the head, soft spot on babies). It then manifests as a cool breeze on the hands and head when the subtle system is in balance. The individual may then ask any fundamental question and if it is true the flow of coolness increases if it is false they stop or become hot.
With practice you can then verify if a news report on TV or in newspapers is true or not. More importantly if there is God or that Jesus was the Son of God. The very expression that we use when something is good, “cool” has come from the collective unconscious.

The process that triggers this step is called self realisation and this is exactly what occurred to Lord Buddha, he became an enlightened being which enabled his attention to reach more sublime insights into life. So one can see it is not exclusively Christian.

As it is a living process no belief is required but one must approach the phenomenon with an open mind and then like a scientist evaluate the results with total honesty. If one chooses to forgo the opportunity that is also your right it is not something that can be forced upon anyone.

This process can be achieved easily and most major cities now have local centres where one can experience meeting others in this state of being. [One could say a state of Gnosis again from the Greek “To Know”. The knowing however is beyond the mind and intellect and we guess that’s why they were termed as mystics]. All meetings are Free of any charge.

In my opinion it is becuase people back then did not know much about the physical world that they lived in and were in turn much more spiritually oriented. Everything that they couldn't explain was chalked up to God and then stories passed down for generations were augmented and elaborated and missinterpreted. I mean, the Romans and Greeks used to think that a dude pulled the sun across the sky everyday in a chariot.
God, if you believe in him, would be no less present today. We just assume people who say he talks to them are crazy. Back in the day, everyone was crazy and uneducated so why not beleive that God dropped food for starving people and made man out of dirt. Who could prove it wrong?

No if God proved his existance then what will be the use of faith and belief. God also created free will and cant be blamed for the mistakes of humanity, because this will is a way of testing the true belivers from the failures.
but fortunatley God is probably very forgiven so if we are truly sorry for all our sins then i think he'll give us a second chance.
lets just hope that everybody does n't wait for that second chance and does the right thing today, help your fellow man, World peace, Ya man!

I think it is a good thing that God moves in a different way than what is stated in the Old Testament. Frankly, the whole dashing little ones to pieces before their parents eyes makes me a little queasy.

I have learnt that God is everywhere because like everyone else have gone through rough times and have been able to make it through because of my faith. Africa-where I was born and raised in the cosmopolitan city of Lusaka, though many may be starving, has more smiles than I have seen in Britain or anywhere else I have been, the tourism industry is bustling not for buildings grey and black but for nature and the beauty of it, God is in that.

We are supposed to have complete and unwavering faith in Him, and yet He doesn't even do us the courtesy of proving He is even there!!!
It's all very convenient. Don't you think He would have alot more followers (and save alot more souls from Hell) if only he would prove Himself?
I don't see why He shouldn't have to... He is asking so much from us and is giving nothing in return. His plan is all set out, so He doesn't answer our prayers (because any 'answered prayers' were in His plan already and therefore aren't really answered, because it was supposed to turn out like that anyway).

It's it more likely that God is still showing His Presence to those who love and obey Him and when they try to tell the good news, many refuse to believe it without even evaluating the possibility. Lack of faith leaves many blind, deaf and dumb to the ways of God.

Romans 1:20......For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable;

I don't believe there is "proof" out there that people need to believe in God. God gave us His word in the Bible and free will to choose in whether we believe it or not. That is where faith comes in. Faith is believing when proof says not to. I choose to believe.

Because one set of people wrote the OT, and another set of people wrote the NT. Hence the vast discrepancies in how they imagined God.
