That's perfectly reasonable, there's no reason you can't do that. I fully support the honorable men and women who are keeping commitments made when they volunteered for military service. That means I also fully support prosecuting and imprisoning those who refuse to go after volunteering.
The war I am a bit ambivalent about. I do not like or want war at any time. On the other hand, the terrorists planned an attack in this country. They killed thousands of innocent, noncombatants without warning. Since we went to war, it has not happened in this country again. Coincidence? maybe, maybe not. I sure don't feel better with the idea of an apologist in office again because I think attacks in this country will resume.
It is very hard to rationally argue with results. I don't agree with the way we have been making war either but understand that politics requires this kid gloves treatment.

I support our troops has become America’s new catch phrase. It has been repeated so many times that it seems as though those who say it are truly compassionate about our troops. What does it mean, “Support our troops”? Does it mean you support them financially? No, the money you spend buying a sticker or magnet that says I support our troops goes to the brilliant capitalist that is marketing to this whole phenomenon. Does it mean you support their cause? No, the majority of people in this country have forgotten why we are at war, and no longer support it. I Support our troops has become an empty phrase with no real meaning.
Is it reasonable to say we can support our troops without supporting their cause, or their commander and chief? No, in Nazi Germany many of the German troops did not believe in Hitler’s mission to wipeout the Jews, but they were in an army that commanded them to, so they followed orders, just as American soldiers are following their orders. The whole German campaign was a terrible tragedy, and all of the Nazis who participated in the slaughtering of the Jews were evil people. So if you believe this blood for oil nonsense, and have forgotten why we are in a war on terrorism you do not support our troops. You might as well grow out your hair, buy a VW bus, light up your next joint, and spit on every person in the armed forces.
Has everyone forgotten why we are at war? Well let me remind you. On September 11, 2001 our nation was attacked by faceless cowards, people who hate America because of our success and freedom. There is an entire culture who wants to see America destroyed. These people need to be found and destroyed before they attack more innocent people. The attack on America was not against our military or government, but against innocent people, our average citizens. They deserve every bit of what they are getting. IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!!

hmm... i don't think this war is b.s.
it's just b.s.ing-ly LONG. much longer than it should be
as for why you can't support troops and hate the war at the same time: someone mentioned above that the phrase "support our troops" has lost it's meaning. and i agree. what exactly does it mean to support our troops now a days? does it mean that we want them to go out there and win? does it mean we love them so much that we say screw it to their mission and want them to come home? who knows. i have an uncle that is an army vet, 2 cousins who serve as officers in the army, my boyfriend is an enlisted marine, and i'm depping in for the navy. when i say i support the troops, i mean this: i love and honor the brave souls that volunteer to serve our country and i want them to go in, do their job, and come hom safely. how can you support our troops but not support the very reason are troops are there?

did you watch 60 minutes last night? the had a segment on the Kurds in norther Iraq the love the Americans they are thankful what we have done they say we liberated Iraq. We captured the evil dictator and he was hung by his own people that part of the country has no violence the people are enjoying a free society and lifestyle. The war that is going on know was created by Zarqawi to create civil war between the two tribes that is all. Unfortunately he succeeded in that but we killed him there are just a few more bad apples to smash and we will be home

Can you Support the Firefighters but want the fire to burn the building down?
Can you "Support the Police" but cheer every time a criminal kills one?
You cannot claim to support someone and want them to fail at the same time.
EDIT: Sorry folks. You cannot separate the men from the mission. The real world doesn't work that way. The anti-war folks have already started spitting on returning soldiers. They are already protesting outside Walter Reed Hospital. Saying you support the troops but are against the war is a cheap way to hide your real feelings. You know the stakes - You know the people who are on the same side with you - Our enemies. By supporting our enemies, you are sure as h3!! not supporting the troops. Your actions are giving support and aid to the people fighting our troopers. Your actions are, in effect, telling them "Hang on! Help's coming! We'll yank our troopers out soon! So keep kililng them just a little while longer! You don't need to give up!" Great job of supporting the troops.
My2Cents- Exactly. What you are doing by claiming to support the troops but being against what they are doing is akin to saying you support the firefighters while pouring gasoline on the building.

My question is, why you think this is a BS war? Have you seen the war, except through another person camera lens and with thier comment? Have you seen what hits the editing room floor?
I doubt you are informed enough to make the call on this wars legitimacy. Thank you for your support, but leave the war to us.

As on of the troops I feel that there is nothing wrong with supporting us without agreeing with the war. I served in Iraq and I don't agree with the war. I went over there did my job and did it well and I looked to the Iraqi people I met to reassure myself that even if the reason we went there were wrong, most wanted liberation. I feel like I contributed more to helping with their stuggle of transition from dictatorship and democracy that a war on terror. People need to remember that the United States had a civil war in our infancy and Iraq may have to go that course to achieve theirs too except now we are in the middle of it and were the catalyst of a fight they werent prepared to fight. We have to help build on the struggle we started.

You can be both, because I am the same way.
Having been military myself, I know the troops have no choice but to obey and execute the orders that are given to them. The political decisions that have them in harm's way are bogus. But I nonetheless pray for the well-being and safe return of our fine military members.
