Rather than ask him for the money outright, ask him if there is some chores you can do to earn money, he will probably ask you why you need money then you can tell him that you need a new hockey stick. He may surprise you and give you a fairly simple task and then give you the money. By doing this you are showing that you are responsible enough to know that you need to earn what you want.

Well if you are in hockey, there is a good chance that he knows hockey. Show him your stick and ask him if he thinks it will hold up through out the next game. OR ask your coach. Your coach might recommend you getting a new stick, and you can tell your dad it was recommended. Also another thing to do is ask him for a new stick, if he says no, tell him you will do some extra chores around the house and work for it.

Ok sounds like you father is practical. Now your best bet to get what you want to to be ready with a presntation almost. You need to take the hockey stick to him, and show it to him..round up some info on how this stick in this shape can sffect your playing and performance, and then sugeest AT LEAST 2 wyas to fix the problem. Obvioulsy one will be the new stick, but, maybe for good measure you can offer up a barter to him, for instance you will for 5 consective weekends do some chore for him..like clean out the car, or something of that nature..offer to sign a contract so he knows your serious. I had someone who was a lot like this in my family, and the old "presentation" approach always worked...

Why don't you suggest helping out with some things for your dad and making some money to help purchase the hockey stick. Maybe if you show your dad that you are willing to do whatever it takes to get this, he just might understand.

If you're afraid you'll get him mad, try writing him a note. And since it is quite expensive, perhaps you could offer to help him around the house for a certain amount of time to help pay for it... I know I would accept that compromise from one of my kids. It's easier to get something from your parents when you're willing to help with the cost. And the help doesn't have to be cash. If you're helping him out around the house, it leaves him more time for other stuff, and time, as we all know, is money.

Good luck in the tournament!

If you are old enough to play hockey you are old enough to earn your own money. When you do you won't say only $90.00.
Ask him to loan you the money and get a part time job .Shovel snow ,mow lawns what ever .

Or say Dad ,what would be a good way for me to earn $90.00 quickly ?

Make a deal with him, offer to pay for half and ask him if he can pay for the other half

Explain it to him like u did with us... He'll understand...
If its something u like and want to keep doing I would see why she would have a prob... Maybe you should tell him you'll work it off.... Just to "pay" him back?

You never know?

...pull out all the stops and be brave...ask him directly and tell him why you need it...and another thing even if costs NINE dollars, it is money he worked for(nothing to sneeze at).
