There a few tools out there. One is the furmanitor. Another is a double toothed comb called a rake that works very well for doublecoated dogs. The one I hate the most is the one that looks like an oval piece of steel with teeth on it it's called a shedding blade. It doesn't work very well and it scratches the dogs skin.

The furminator as stated on here before is good, also any shedding blades or rakes do help. To me they just look scary, and can hurt you if you have your hand in the way holding the dog while your using it. I love the shed-ender. Yes, its that thing you see on the TV commercal, and it really does work. I found it at a store called Bed-Bath and Beyond for $9.99. I use it weekly on my parents Lab\Rottweiler X and she won't shed for weeks. She sheds like both breeds do, and is a big pain in the butt right before winter and early spring. Lab or Rottie owners can agree i'm sure... There are big "doggie hair tumble weeds" everywhere on a windy day, lol! Andif you haven't seen the commercial, there is a link below I posted. But it is cheaper at that store I mentioned. Hope I was able to help! :)

I use a rubber "curry comb" for my pug. It looks basically like a block of rubber, except it has triangular wedges cut out of the bottom. It works great on dogs with "double coats"... where they have finer hair under the coarse stuff (which seems to be the case with most heavy shedders). It works great on my cattle dog too, even though she doesn't shed much.

I got it at Petco or PetSmart I think... it was around $10, but it's the ONLY dog brush I found that really helps.

This one is a little different... but similar to what I have.
