Why didn't an angel appear to James in the Bible but to Peter instead?

I am doing a Bible Study and need to know the answer. Angels assisted Peter while in prison but not James. Why? What was God trying to show us by this example?

God no longer need James on this earth, His message was being spread mostly by Paul and Barnabas.

James death gave Herod a bit of satisfaction.

Sometimes martyrdom fires up the people.
