I've been planning on putting some personality into my father's plain beige and white kitchen. He has wall to wall white appliances and assorted cupboards that could really use some color. I was thinking about hand-painting and sealing the furniture, but I'm not sure what I can do with the appliances. Contact paper and stickers are not on my list of things to use. I'd like to give the appliances new faces and paint all visible sides. Some appliances get quite warm, especially when the kitchen is warmed in general from cooking. What kind of paint could I use to fully paint all visible outside parts of appliances (refridgerator, microwave, toaster, possibly the washer's front and top, thinking about the metal ceiling lamp as well) and still have them safe to use? I need a paint that will resist getting marked up or dulling, something that can withstand some heat and a good surface-cleaner wipe down. Any ideas? I would really appreciate any advice or experiences you have about this! - Sam

Appliance paint in a can. Use only on painted toaster, not shiny one.

I know you probably don't want to, but the safest option is buying a new microwave. A refridgerator is one thing because it is usually cold, but a painted microwave could cause a fire. When it is painted at the factory they use special pain that cannot be burned..paint that is usually not made available to the public. Before you paint it or buy something new, try going to the local hardware place, Lowes, or Home Depot. They can help you make the best decision.

Yes you can. On those home improvement shows they use paint designed for appliances all the time. You can paint a stove, mircowave, fridge, just about any appliance ... Just make sure that the paint can specifies being heat resistant. Ask any store that sells paint if they have any, it might also be in a spray can. Hope I helped.

Fairely good question. Don't worry about the microwave though....as long as you don't do the inside you will be ok. Any spray can style paint will work ok. I recammend Krylon's H20 paint. bonds to any surface. If you plan on using a non-aerosal paint...get enamel based. Heat won't bother it. Just don't paint anthin that is going to have food contact...bad idea for any paint.

They make special paint for appliances, check the hardware stores for it. I've seen some of those home decorating shows use some type of spray paint on refrigerators and stove.

It's easier and safer to only paint non-heating appliances (fridges, for example). . .but I completely understand the need to personalize on a budget. So, here are some links to expert ideas for painging this.
