I would like to hardwire my garage remote to my car. I have designated a 12 volt connection in the fuse box to tap into when the car is started. I have a push button switch installed. The garage remote already has resistors for a 9 volt battery. I looked at my local store and found many types of resistors. What do need to bring the 12 volt to 9 volt?

You'd have to know the current that the remote uses under all operating conditions (hot, cold, etc) as well as all voltage ranges that your car might produce to compute the correct resistor value.

Try an adjustable voltage regulator (1st link below). There are usually some simple calculations to compute the resistors needed for 9V output (you can probably even find someone at RS to help you). The regulator will work without worrying about the input voltage range and it can handle more than enough current for a garage remote circuit.

Or, you can buy one already built that plugs into your lighter socket (2nd link below).
