I found religion is a lot like TV, mostly fiction and a waste of time.
I had a stay at home Mom, not much TV was allowed.

When I was a Christian I was heavily involved the community
specifically Bible study and youth group.

In many ways the change for me came when I was actually mature enough to think for myself and understand that the religion I was taught to worship was nothing more then a series of simple answers to unknowable questions. A way for people to feel that their life has some sort of purpose in this crazy world.

I am an Atheist, and I am 15

and I am actually insulted that you would imply that non-christianity is influenced by a poor family structure
My parents are kind, loving, and supportive of everything I do
(they are Christians)
You only strengthen the ignorance that is so widespread in the Christian faith about Atheism

You mean back when I was a Christian? Yes I was involved with other Christians, went to a church, and also studied on my own, etc... your point here being?

And no, I didn't watch much TV at all, I mainly read books; my parents did a good job raising me. My mom was a stay at home mother. The TV never baby-set me.

Yes, I was part of the Christian community. I worked in the parish office with three pastors. Maybe that's where part of my distaste for the belief system began. My parents had nothing to do with my choice to leave Christianity.

This is an arrogant question.

I was very active in my church community - in fact I taught both children and adults coming into the faith.

My parents let me watch Capt. Kangaroo. That was about it. So I would have to say no to that second part there.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I was certainly involved in the church community. I grew up in a Disciples of Christ Church and attended church regularly. I participated in church activities, such as volunteer work, special presentations, youth group trips, potlucks, and charity benefits.

I am actually still involved with various church communities. Tonight, I am going to a discussion group run by a Christian group. I attend Christian services from time to time and many of my closest friends are Christian clergy. We cooperate on a number of interfaith charity events, panel discussions, and discussion groups.

I had quite a pleasant experience in the Christian church and even studied religion in college. I have read three English versions of the Bible, as well as having read it in Hebrew and Greek (I attempted to read the Latin Vulgate, but my Latin is somewhat lacking).

I had a rather pleasant experience with the Christian church. The reason why I left Christianity is simply because I do not believe Jesus to be divine. I think he was a great guy, but I'm not even convinced that he thought that he was divine. He refers to God as "my father", but no more often than he refers to him/her/it as "your father" and there are plenty of "our father" and "children of God" references in there as well. I also have difficulty with the concept of Jesus being God, because Jesus specifically mentions praying to God. Why exactly would one pray to oneself?

As for my parents, we rarely watched tv as children. At least one of my parents was almost always with us, my mother was a stay at home mom when we were young and then became a part time substitute teacher while we were in school. My mother taught and still teaches Sunday school. She is on the church education board as well.

Yes, I was extremely involved in the church.

No, we watched very little television. I lived on a farm and we worked too much to waste time on TV.

Yes. I attended church services, sunday school, and church activities. You can't "blame" my parents for my decision. It's not a bad decision, anyways, so why do you care?

Once again, I would have liked to have seen you use a "you people" somewhere in that comment.
