That elemental force that calls from the waves and the shore, and beckons you to a life out on the oceans? The romance of a life spent in faraway ports with the spray in your hair and the callouses of hard work on your hands?

Has it called you?

This is a serious question looking for informed answers- answers not reflecting this are unwelcome.

The question is in this section as the sea can deeply affect the souls of a few.

Thanks!

Well. No. But get the book "The Old Man & The Sea". Sounds like your sort of genre. Frankly the sea is full of stinging, biting, grasping creatures that will kill most of us humans. Can't really blame 'em.........

Every time I am near the sea I get the feeling that I am being drawn into it ' the call ' as you put it. I get transfixed into another world and at times it has been very difficult to hold back. I am a Pices by the way and have always wondered if this is or has something to do with the strong feeling of the sea. however, just yesterday I was walking round a large lake and even though I was safe I was feeling I was going to fall to the bottom of an abyss. Unless one has experienced this it may be difficult for others to believe or begin to understand so I realise why you only ask for serious answers. It will be interesting to see what response you get.

I have heard it! I've seen it calling. I see it almost every night in my dreams. Somebody said once that sea reminds us of a sky, because we like to look down rather than up. I think the sea is actually part of the sky. That probably where it's power coming from. The depth, the strength, the endlessness, the mystery, the cruelty and delicacy, the kindness of a breeze and the reminder of eternity and death. I am the happiest in my life when sitting by the sea or standing on the edge of a rock, embracing the whole breathing body of it with my soul, feeling the freshness of it with my skin, telling my Great Old Wise and Loving friend How I missed It's sight and I HEAR the answer!

I can identify with your question, although for me, it is the call of the rivers and the wilderness. It is being at one with the current and curious about what is around the next bend. It is identifying with the flow of life as it exits atop and below the water line.

It is the sound of the water lapping against the canoe, or the shoreline at night. It is paddling 15-20 miles a day and loving it.

It is reading the wind and sky, and knowing it's time to find shelter NOW.

On the really negative side, it is being born and living along the Great Lakes, which are extremely unforgiving.

I prefer to stick to the rivers.

Yes, I think I know the call...

The call of the sea is always with me and I have such an affinity with the sea that I never want to leave it. The sea has always been part of my life one way or another and hope that it always will be for ever.

I remember when was on holiday in Portugal I spent a whole day sitting with the portuguese fishermen whilst they mended their nets. Goodness knows what they thought of this mad woman watching them all day. It was sheer bliss to sit on the beach watching them mend the nets in a time honoured tradition. Sea spray and calloused hands I had in all in my sights.

I have. Ever read Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad or Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne? Both tell stories of great maritime adventures. I think a lot of people love the ocean. Why do you think most of the population in the US lives close to or next to the ocean?

What a lovely heartfelt question, I love the sea, I always wish to be by the sea, live at the coast so I would be nearer. I spend lots of time looking out to sea when I'm there and just daydream, I could sit there for hours staring out at the ocean, I would love to be a bird flying over the cold white surf, just me and the sea.

Actually...yes. Yes it has.

And I know it's a little different, but I kind of get the same feeling when I'm around the Great Lakes. I don't need a sunny beach in California...I love the shore on a cloudy, chilly day. I get the feeling you described wherever I am along the sea. It's really a wonderful, almost poetic feeling, isn't it?

It is very romantical expression of feelings motivated by fantasies not by realities. The call of elemental force in every self is the call of the Creator "Am I not worth to be loved most?"
