All Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler police cars from 1980 to 1986 had a 318 four barrel.

I wouldn't doubt it. I had a 74 Dart with a 318 and it had a one barrel and would smoke the tires off with little effort. You want power in a small car? Buy an old Mopar product. You have the right idea dude.

Yes, they had many over the years. The first generation 318, the "polyspherical" 318, first appeared in 1957. It came in a four- barrel version from its inception through about 1962. The four- barrel version was rated at 260hp and a one-model-year-only two four-barrel version was rated at 275hp gross horsepower. The second generation 318, one of the "LA" or "A" family of "thin-wall casting" Mopar engines was produced from 1966 through 1989. This engine first had an available four barrel engine in the early to mid '70s though the last one in 1989. From the '70s through '81, a 318cid/5.2L the four-barrel engine was largely, if not exclusively, sold in California and "high-altitude county" versions. Due to the special emission-control requirements in these areas, a four-barrel was used to partially compensate for the additional power-sapping adjustments. Horsepower varied from 130 to 150 net horsepower. Beginning in 1981, the 318cid/5.2L four-barrel became the "heavy-duty" powerplant of choice, optionally available only in police cars. From '81 through '84, this engine was rated at 165hp. For the '85 model year through the end of production in '89, the engine put out 175hp. The third generation 5.2L "Magnum" engine, beginning in '92 ending in '03, was always fuel injected. The 235hp of '92 edition was probably the most powerful 318 of them all.

Of the 32 years carburetted 318cid/5.2L Chysler engines were in production, about 23 of those years saw a four-barrel available, although not in every market and not in every geographical location.
