You know, I called my credit card companies to stop raising my limits and to actually reduce them. I tried three and they all said the same thing, "Just don't spend past the limit you set for yourself." I didn't think this was very helpful but they said they "couldn't" lower it.

I also recently applied for a store card that gave 0% interest and I asked the same thing. They gave me a $5000 limit and I said, "Can't I just get the $1500 I need to pay for my new furniture." They too said, "Just don't spend it. That's all I can suggest."

So I'm not sure if the people suggesting you call the CC company are just making it up because they think it makes sense or their CC company actually let them do it. The making it up part wouldn't surprise me from Yahoo! Answers.

I was concerned about theft too. I guess if that ever occurs you just have to cross your fingers and hope that they back their theft guarantees (Which I hear they do very well).

you are able to request a decrease reduce, and they might do not have any issue giving it to you. yet, as a rule reducing your limits is a nasty theory. One important aspect on your credit status is your credit utilization. it is your entire credit accessible compared on your credit used. ideally this needs to be saved lower than 30%. So the better limits you've you ever can spend more beneficial and nonetheless have a decrease utilization. as an get mutually in the adventure that your charge playing cards have a finished reduce of 10K, 30% will be $3,000. besides the undeniable fact that, in case you decreased your reduce to $1000, 30% would in trouble-free terms be $three hundred. basically in gasoline on my own you need to possibly bypass over the $three hundred in a unmarried month. also, maximum charge playing cards have a nil liablility(or minimum legal duty) coverage. it is in the adventure that your card is stolen you're not any further held answerable for any purchases you probably did not make. you need to study the words of your playing cards to make certain if yours incorporates this. It does no longer sound as in case you would have difficulty controlling your spending. so as long as you do not spend more beneficial than you will pay again you possibly ought to go away the bounds the position they are.

When you apply for a credit card ask for a specific limit at that point and the bank will be happy to grant your request as it limits their risk ratio too.
