There are advantages and disadvantages to pop-ups. You need to weigh what's important to you.
Advantages.
If moving from a tent, a pop-up is luxury. Off the ground, away from ants and bugs, real beds, pottys, a/c and heat, mini kitchen, etc. Plus you can pack a lot of your other gear in the storage areas, bumper and tongue boxes, etc. They are easy to pull and get much better gas milage than a full travel trailer. Plus you can store them in the driveway or garage and light ones you can move around by hand. Usually affordable by most working people, without a special tow vehicle required.
Disadvantages. Not great in very rainy or windy areas. Require set-up and takedown and need to be real level. Requires you to establish a set up and takedown ritual, which can be timely on long trips that have you moving campsites each day. Not great in sub zero temps. Requires some extra maintence on the lift mechanism and replacing the fabric every five years or so, depending. Not good in bear country.
Pop-ups serve a great middle market between those who like to rough it and those who want full time luxury like a travel trailer or motor home.
I camped in one for years and would love another one now that I sold my cabin in the woods. We had an Apache when I was a kid and I've had Colemans and liked them.

We bought a used one and took off a long weekend every six weeks and visited all the state parks in Florida. We also took three 7-10 day trips into the mountains. It is a great toy to own. It will be up to you to make use of it. Buy a used one. We got our money back.

My family had one and loved it. They give you some of the shelter of an RV, but still essentially camping in the outdoors. We used it for hunting in temperatures down to -15 F, was nippy, but we didn't freeze by any means. The only reason we sold ours, was when I started working construction on the road, I spent 83 nights in the pop-up the first year, and had to upgrade. Go for it, you'll love it.

My mother and father have one and they love it!! I wish we had one but we can't afford to buy one right now. We usually take a tent when we go camping. A pop up is so much nicer though!!!
It seems fairly easy to pop it up and take it down.

My parents had one when I was growing up. Used it all the time. The only caution I would give is if you camp where it is really windy, they dont do so good.

My uncle has been pop-up-ing :-) all his life and I know that he and his wife love it.
He managed to put together pop-uping site and here you may find out about their experiences:

They are cool, but I prefer real camping, but if you don't really like tents, they are great! Have an awesome day!
