government isn't just about managing the benefit system.
leaving that obvious point aside, removing all benefit is a rather simplistic approach.
yes, there are a lot of sponging wasters out there fiddling the benefit system ... and somehow they need to be identified and brought to task ... but there are a lot of people who genuinely need support, and we sould be careful not to dismiss them.
take single mothers, who you seem to pick out especially. often a mother doesn't choose to raise a child on her own, it's not her first choice, and the child has the right to a decent upbringing. you can't solve the problem by forcing the mother out to work, what happens to the kid? once the child is of school age the mother could work part time, but she's going to have to be there to put the child to school, and collect them from school - childcare is expensive - a part-time wage isn't enough for a mother and child to live on, so they need benefit ... only a moron would grudge them that.
i think you know all this, though. will be interesting to see what debate your question stirs up.

You answered your own question. If most people on benefits are spongers then, of course, you need a government to administer those benefits. If there were no benefits, people would be fighting
over jobs that don't exist.

This is a joke surely. I've been unemployed in the past and desperate for work. I moved 300 miles for my first job, and was paid peanuts. This "plenty of work available" mentality just doesn't apply to many of us. There's plenty of work available if you have contacts and your face fits, but for many people finding work can be a slog. I really hope this question is a wind-up.

England needs a government. It needs a good government.
People need good governance so that they know and can be directed how to live their lives properly and not become a burden to the state.

we need someone to lead the country, not necessarily a government though. However we do need some form of benefits for the genuinly needy.
