My sinuses are killing me - it goes from moderate to extreme pain above my eyes, around my nose, below my ears.

Besides the sinus area, the top of my head also hurts, I have a stuffy and runny nose, it hurts my eyes to focus too much, i feel dizzy, and a bit nauseus - vomited yesterday.

i assume it is a sinus infection, but i keep taking nasal sprays, decongestants, pain relievers, and steam (vapor machine) and it only relieves the pain slightly - it comes back after an hour, and even during that hour, it only allievates one area - i still feel sick.

what is it and what are some quick home remedies? i have an appointment this evening but i wanted your thoughts and help. thank you so much.

As for herbal you might try some hot tea. Anything with menthol, camphor or peppermint should help with the pain.

Sudafed only opens the passages, but the gunk might be "stuck to the wall". For a homeopathic remedy which works in minutes, try a saline nasal rinse (not a spray.) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. You might have to try a couple of times!
It soothes with warmth, it draws out the entire gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean, but without the eye stinging).

Buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot

You can do this as often as you like with no side effects. KEEP TRYING!

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. If you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

It sounds like you have several things going on - first is a sinus infection or severe allergies, and second, the first problem is triggering migraine headaches. To treat the sinus congestion, there are two medications you can use: an expectorant such as Mucinex, and a decongestant such as sudafed. Not much more you can do there.

The migraines are a bigger problem. There really aren't any over the counter medicines that help with migraines. The best you can do is to take a normal dose of Alleve along with a normal dose of acetaminophen, and make sure that nothing else you are taking contains acetaminophen. When you see you doc, you might ask for a prescription for imitrex, which is one of hte more effective meds for migraines.

Sinuses are hollow air spaces in the human body. When people say, "I'm having a sinus attack," they usually are referring to symptoms in one or more of four pairs of cavities, or sinuses, known as paranasal sinuses . These cavities, located within the skull or bones of the head surrounding the nose, include

Frontal sinuses over the eyes in the brow area
Maxillary sinuses inside each cheekbone
Ethmoid sinuses just behind the bridge of the nose and between the eyes
Sphenoid sinuses behind the ethmoids in the upper region of the nose and behind the eyes
Each sinus has an opening into the nose for the free exchange of air and mucus, and each is joined with the nasal passages by a continuous mucous membrane lining. Therefore, anything that causes a swelling in the nose-an infection, an allergic reaction, or another type of immune reaction-also can affect the sinuses. Air trapped within a blocked sinus, along with pus or other secretions, may cause pressure on the sinus wall. The result is the sometimes intense pain of a sinus attack. Similarly, when air is prevented from entering a paranasal sinus by a swollen membrane at the opening, a vacuum can be created that also causes pain.

One thing i do at home is to soak a small towel in hot water and then place it over the areas which are sore. lie down with your head slightly lower than the rest of you. You may need to re-heat the towel a few times but eventually alot of the mucous build up will begin to run.

Sounds like sinus infection, I had that, Severe migraines, runny and stuffy nose, yep. I used ice packs and relaxed, took aspirin. Then I went to the doctor and got antibiotics. I had it wihtout knowing for a couple of months, I had migraines thinking it was because of genetics since it ran in my family. If it goes untreated for a very long time, it affects the brain. Luckily I didn't wait too long. I had a fever of 103.5 I think, and I lossed strenghth in my legs once and fell. I was so dizzy and had to crawl to my bed. I was near going to the ER.
