They told him a wild animal had killed him and showed their father Joseph's coat of many colors that they had put blood on. By the time his father found out, they were starving and Joseph was in a position to feed them and he was glad Joseph was alive and saw the hand of God in the situation.

By that time Joseph was a rich honcho in Egypt and Jacob would have been glad that his son made good. Anyhow Joseph accepted the idea that the whole business was God's will and I suppose Jacob did too.

Well obviously you havent read the whole story, at first the told Jacob that his son was killed by wild animals, then when they returned the second time from Egypt loaded with the caravans from their to bring Jacob and the rest of his household to Egypt, to be with Joseph who was Second in command to Pharoah. Jacob had already learned the lesson of forgiveness at Peniel, where he met God face to face and lived, he also could see God's providence in the story.
