Loreal Excellence is great. I have Auburn hair but lived in Florida so it was always lightened. We moved to CT and NO SUN so I use 6RB (RB is reddish blonde) to stay the same color. They have a lighter strawberry blonde as well. Hope this helps!!!

And people, if she asks for over-the-counter then that is what she wants to know. I'm sure she knows all about going to a salon, but that wasn't the question.

Just to let you know I colored mine last night AGAIN and it works GREAT! I have been a dark red hair my whole life and the Excellence works to lighten it a few shades--I wouldn't go too strawberry as it might look to brassy, but you can easily go a lighter shade without bleaching.

I have auburn hair also. I decided I wanted to go blonde a while back. What you can do, use a box of color for highlights. (you could also do an overall lighter color as well if you like) I had my professionally done, but I've been doing that for a while now anyway. Have a friend help apply the highlights, either with a brush or cap (whatever is provided). Keep an eye on the color while waiting on the hightlights. Be sure to use a shampoo for lightened/blonde hair otherwise the highlights will turn brassy. I am glad that I didn't go all the way blonde, but it's still light enough to acheive what I wanted.

You can't do that...if your hair is colored auburn now then-color will not lighten color, it needs to be stripped out. Even if your natural was auburn, I would still think that it would turn orange if you tried. Those boxes are terrible-they come with such a high volume of peroxide and high ammonia levels that it just turns your hair orangey-gold if you were to try something like that. (I mean I know you want strawberry blonde but I'm sure you don't want quite the terrible off golden color it will turn) go see a professonal before you have to pay big bucks to get it fixed after : )

If you want to do that you'll have to use (hair) bleach before you dye it, otherwise your hair will turn a strange shade of orange.

I don't advise dying it at home, strawberry blonde can be a difficult shade to achieve, especially if you're lightening your hair and I recommend going to an accomplished stylist.
