I have long hair and I used to find it very tangled in the mornings until I started tying it up during the night it was a bit strange at first but I soon got used to it and found a very big difference in the morning when I tried to brush it.
If this is not the case try asking your hairdresser for further advice but beware they don't try getting you to purchase an expensive product from them that may not work.
I hope youget it sorted

Those knots are matted fur. It happens when a long hair walks under bushes and rolls around on the ground. Sometimes a seed gets trapped in the fur. Do not brush or comb when the cat's fur is wet. Haven't you ever run a brush through your hair after a shower (and not use conditioner)...it hurts. Brushing and/or combing is very pleasurable to an animal if it is done gently. The mats will probably have to be cut out. Cats get under the weather just like people. They have days they don't feel their best. It is not a panic situation. Usually, like us, they pop back with more energy the next day.

my hair was knotty for years and years, hairdressing trips were worse than going to the dentist!
found out eventually that i'd damaged my hair by using the wrong shampoos and conditioners.
commercial shampoos and conditioners put a layer of plastic on your hair making it impossible to get conditioned (silicone which makes it shiny when you first use them but builds up). if you take a pair of scissors / knife and rub it up and down your hair and you get white bits coming off then it's plastic and the reason your hair gets knotty.
i had a treatment at the hairdressers which stripped it all off and now use lush shampoos and conditioners ( http://www.lush.co.uk - they aren't hugely expensive and smell gorgeous). but without the treatment it won't make any difference until the bad bits grow out xxx

It may be that you do not rinse all the shampoo and conditioner out of it ...it should be "squeaky clean" which means it makes a tiny squeaking sound as you run your fingers through it when you have rinsed it .... if it does not, just give it another rinse and the last rinse should not be a little cool so your hair is stronger ...

it is usually caused by split ends, and is worse with fine hair. try going to hairdressers and having split ends cut off, maybe you could tie your hair back at night, as the problem is always worse in the mornings! or even try a deep treatment leave in conditioner. hope this helps!

Cause - split ends, there is no conditioner in the world that will tackle this they need cutting off!! Once they have gone the difference will be unbelieveable and your hair will grow faster.

Sounds like you could have split ends. When did you last have your hair cut/trimmed? It should be cut every 6 - 8 weeks.
