I used to spend about £8 a week on it but cut down to £1 and saved the £7 a week. In 4 years I've saved (in a separate account) around £1,750 (plus interest to be added in a month or two's time).
I would never have won that money if I'd played.

Since November 14th 1994 the National Lottery in the UK has raised £19Bn ($38Bn) for charity. They have created over 2,000 millionaires.
In November 2006 the official web site broke all records by selling half a million pounds ($1m) worth of online tickets in a single hour.
In the 2006 financial year ticket sales rose to £5Bn ($10Bn).
The UK Lottery is one of the most successful in the world, it is incredibly well run, pays out great prizes, and unlike in most countries the government does not tax you to death if you win. Try winning Powerball in the US, they take about half the winnings in tax!
Seriously, in terms of a lottery I don't know what more you could ask from these people.
Personally, I don't agree with the 'good causes' that the money goes to, but that is a government issue as opposed to the lottery itself. I also think that Virgin should have a shot at operating it.

I do the Lottery with my work colleagues - we buy eight tickets each week and if we win anything it gets saves until the end of the year for the staff dinner. Obviously if we won the jackpot we would shut up shop and wouldn't be seen for dust!! Like everything else, the Lottery Comission seem to be always thinking up new ways to re-package the same product. Look at Coka Cola! There was Coke Lime.... Coke Zero....

Not since Mr Blair-Brown took cash from the lottery to prop up budget expenditure. The lottery already pays taxes on the sale of tickets, so why did they take 8 BILLION out for education and the NHS. They'll do the same when we have to pay up for the global warming levy........ YOU WAIT AND SEE

it's a waste of money and a waste of time. A joke I heard once about it was so true. What is the definition of the National Lottery? A tax on the stupid

i don;t understand it - thunderball, extras, euromillions, furryball...what next? i played once when i turned 16, for the whole novelty of it, and haven't played since (11 years ago). On the plus side, can we get everyone to forget about it and then win in between us?
